The Leitrim County Childcare Committee was established in 2001 and is composed of representatives of the key stakeholders in childcare in the County. The formation of the committee came after five years of intense development activity in the childcare sector in the county and is part of a nationwide framework to promote a strategic approach to Childcare development.

The priority areas of work for the Committee with Childcare for the period 2013- 2014 will be to:

Underpinned by the ethos of collaborative working, the following areas have been identified by the Childcare Directorate(Department of Children & Youth Affairs)as priorities for 2013:

On-going /Core work

  • Supporting the delivery of the three national programmes (ECCE,CCS,CETS)
  • Supporting sustainability throughout the sector
  • Supporting childcare providers

Quality

  • Síolta – The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education
  • Aistear – the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework
  • Pre-quality supports
  • Managing challenging behaviour

Child Protection

  • Child Protection Early Years Committee
  •  Rollout of Children First Training

Literacy & Numeracy

  • Supporting the implementation of the National Strategy to improve Literacy and Numeracy
  •  Workshops supporting Literacy and Numeracy

Further to 2014 we will be following the objectives of the Early Years Strategy 2014 – 2020

MissionStatement

To facilitate childcare providers to develop appropriate childcare services which respond to and cater for the childcare needs of local parents and their children and meets the objectives of the National Childcare Investment Programme 2006-2010; and to continue to support and work with childcare providers, parents and other key stakeholders at a local level.
