About Leitrim County Childcare

Mission Statement:

To facilitate childcare providers to develop appropriate childcare services which respond to and cater for the childcare needs of local parents and their children and meets the objectives of the DCYA and to continue to support and work with childcare providers, parents and other key stakeholders at a local level. 


The Leitrim County Childcare Committee was established in 2001 and is composed of representatives of the key stakeholders in childcare in the County.

Interagency Work:


‘Better Start’ is the new national initiative established by Department of Children & Youth Affairs (DCYA) to support the development of quality in the Early Years Sector. This new initiative will provide a specialist on-site mentoring service. Focus currently is being directed towards full day care services however ‘Better Start’ are open to any service that wishes to make a self referral at this stage.
